Job Responsibilities:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Food Safety Coordinator to develop, lead and maintain our food safety and quality assurance programs. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with food safety standards, specifically Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) requirements, with a strong emphasis on meat processing and manufacturing operations.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety programs, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory and GFSI standards (e.g., SQF, BRC, FSSC 22000).
  • Lead and coordinate GFSI certification efforts, including documentation, internal audits, and third-party audits.
  • Conduct employee training programs on food safety practices, hygiene, sanitation, and compliance protocols.
  • Monitor and verify sanitation, operational practices, and HACCP plans to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate and respond to food safety incidents or non-conformances; implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Collaborate with operations, QC, and production teams to integrate food safety priorities into daily activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to inspections, audits, and training.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices related to food safety and meat processing.

Qualifications:

(Preferred, not required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Animal Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in food safety, with direct experience in meat processing and manufacturing environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of GFSI certification schemes (such as SQF, BRC, or FSSC 22000), including audit readiness, documentation, and implementation.
  • Proven experience in training and leading cross-functional teams in food safety compliance.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, and regulatory requirements (e.g., USDA, FDA).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Certification in HACCP and/or GFSI implementation preferred.

Wage Schedule:

  • Part-Time (16-24 hours weekly): $20-$30K annually
  • Full-Time (40 hours weekly): $50-$60K annually
