Preventive Controls for Human Food 2.0 - COMING SOON!

This training is designed to provide food safety professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Food Safety Plan in compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements.

The Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) for Human Food regulation ensures the safe manufacturing, processing, packing, and holding of food products for human consumption in the United States.

By successfully completing this course, participants will obtain a PCQI certificate from the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA).

Structure:

  • ​​​Courses are offered in 5-week cycles. Select your cycle for each course when purchasing.
  • 30-35 hours of asynchronous, online learning suggested for successful completion.
  • Guided activities to create or revise a food safety plan for a mock food production facility.
  • Four discussion assignments
  • One Final Exam
  • One live video discussion with the instructor and other participants. During the live discussion, participants will be expected to answer questions about the course material/concepts to earn their certificates.

Materials:

  • All materials will be made available in MSU online learning platform, including the downloadable FSPCA Participant Preventive Controls Manual.

Course Offering:

  • The first PCQI for Human Foods 2.0 course will beginning in the Fall Semester 2025. 
  • The class registration price will be $860. The cost of the certificate is included in registration price.

Preventive Controls for Animal Food

Enroll in our Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) for Animal Food Course to acquire the expertise necessary for ensuring the safety and regulatory compliance of animal feed and pet food under the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

This course covers the Current Good Manufacturing Practices, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-based Preventive Controls for Animal Food Regulation, which aims to guarantee the safe manufacturing, processing, packing, and holding of food products for animal consumption in the United States.

By successfully completing this course, participants will obtain a PCQI certificate from the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA).

Per Course

  • Overview of the Food Safety Modernization Act requirements for Animal Food
  • Current GMPs and other prerequisite programs in the animal feed industry: hygienic personnel practices and training, facility operations, maintenance processes, sanitation equipment use and design, process controls, warehousing and distribution
  • Biological, chemical and physical hazards
  • Appropriate steps needed to develop a food safety plan such as hazard analysis and implementation of preventive controls.
  • FAO Good Practices for the animal feed industry
  • Case studies from industry

Structure:

  • Courses are offered in 5-week cycles. Select your cycle for each course when purchasing.
  • 30-35 hours of asynchronous, online learning suggested for successful completion.
  • All assignments must be completed by the end of the selected cycle (cycles are chosen at checkout).
  • Participants will participate in a live online meeting with the instructor and other participants at the end of the course. This required online meeting date will be published in the course at the start of the course.
