The Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s (CVM) Online Food Safety (OFS) Program has appointed Dr. Patty Weber as acting director. Her appointment began on April 22, 2019.

Dr. Weber has been with CVM since 2010 as an assistant professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. She received her BS, MS and PhD degrees in Animal Science from Michigan State University. After earning her PhD, Dr. Weber completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology. Dr. Weber spent 21 years with the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the Department of Animal Science before joining CVM. She joined the OFS program in August 2017 and is currently leading the program’s capstone projects and the Food Safety Research Methods course. Dr. Weber has co-authored several publications in well-respected peer-reviewed journals. She brings a wealth of research and writing experience to the program along with many great ideas for continued quality improvement. 

Heather Ricks will remain as the program's assistant director and academic advisor, and supports Dr. Weber in her new role. The successful OFS program will continue to grow and educate food safety leaders under their leadership.

Dr. Scott Haskell recently stepped down as OFS director. We thank him for his contribution and time with the program.

Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine's Online Food Safety program educates professionals on how to make global food systems safe and supports individuals as they advance in food safety-related careers.  The program consists of an online Master of Science in Food Safety degree, non-credit continuing education courses, and an on-campus executive education program.
