Job Responsibilities:

FOOD SAFETY PROCESS / CONTROL SYSTEMS

  • Implement and manage process control systems and preventative actions in the food safety area.
  • Conduct plant walk-thru/third-party audits and provide feedback on potential issues.
  • Perform risk assessments on new products/processes and identify all food safety risks that will be managed. 
  • Laboratory Oversight - Data analysis of routine data as well as guiding the investigation data collection.
  • Shelf-life monitoring program oversight to ensure implementation and data generated for support plants.
  • Report food safety findings/results for corporate and plant dashboard metrics.
  • Manage process control systems and implement preventative actions in the food safety area.
  • Execute food safety projects at the plant level.
  • Project management, facility, and equipment design

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

  • Monitor and work with other departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the food safety system is properly written, validated, documented, and implemented as directed to ensure USDA regulatory compliance.
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements and laws by auditing programs for regulatory compliance and monitoring day to day actions for brand protection. 
  • Support programs for the food safety system (food defense, pre-requisite programs, MOP’s, etc.)  
  • Manage the plant SQF programs and initiatives.
  • Manage HACCP and Regulatory compliance issues including food safety issues that are controlled by SSOP, HACCP or other prerequisite programs.

 FOOD SAFETY CULTURE

  • Manage local Food Safety/HACCP team in coaching, performance, training, and development including leading seek and destroy and foreign material teams.
  • Provide technical training to management and employees, vendors, and client’s facilities regarding the adequacy of food safety program, pest control, operational methods and personnel practices, and maintenance of food safety and cleaning practices.
  • Partner with the Quality Manager to develop strong Food Safety and Quality driven plant initiatives.
  • Serve as acting Quality Manager in that person’s absence.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCY REQUIRED

  • Implements the use of new tools, processes, software to improve food safety processes.
  • Drives compliance process, procedure, and requirements to ensure audits and compliance checks enhance compliance.
  • Effectively translates, adapts, and integrates corporate level programs into the plant.
  • Understands the vision of corporate food safety goals and translates technical aspects of those goals to the plant.
  • Identifies risks and failures associated with food safety crisis. Takes action to resolve issues and identify the root causes.
  • Identifies and effectively communicates to senior management time sensitive findings and information that could impact LOF or its customers.
  • Knows how to anticipate and solve food safety issues in the plant and develops appropriate mitigation and solutions.
  • Knows when statistical analysis is called for; knows when findings are significant.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Food Safety Management. Preferred with experience supervising staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience with Safe Quality Foods Codes.
  • HACCP or HARPC certified.
  • Demonstrated and proven knowledge of GMP, MOPs, SOPs and SSOPs.
  • Direct experience performing customer audit standards
  • Knowledge of Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Organic programs and relevant government regulations is required.
  • Strong computer skills, including IFS, SharePoint, and Microsoft Suite
  • Local and/or overnight travel is required 30% of the time.
